People don’t realize how much work we put in our work For example a painting..that’s shit takes hours, it take days. I get messages all the time people asking for art but as soon as I tell them a price they stop replying. And my art is cheap honestly. I get told by people that are more interested in art that my art is way too cheap.
So y’all better buy my art now because the price is slowly rising

- Yes! Art is (usually) priced fairly by the amount of time and materials used just like any other product you buy. A lot of people don’t understand how expensive art supplies are. There are tubes of paint that easily go for $150. And if you were making $10 an hour (that’s even low) for every hour you spent on a painting just like people get working at their jobs - it adds up. People get scared away by the price tag because you can go buy a cliche framed reproduction from Walmart for $20. You pay for originality, you pay for hand craftsmanship, you pay for the little bit of the artists soul that is put into every piece. So no, I’m not going to draw a picture of you, your favorite pop culture icon, or your dog for free. This isn’t a hand out, work is not a hand out. We don’t expect people to fix our cars for free, or even get a bottle of water for free, why is art any different ?

Yes exactly!

THIS^ I have a lot of people my age asking for artwork, and in the past I’ve been happy to come through. But I have increasingly stopped doing any work for anybody because the majority of the people asking for artwork don’t want to pay the money you ask for it. Like, WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK THIS IS FREE?! gtfoh… or they expect some kind of discount because they know me and to be honest, I find that deplorable. I have become an incredibly stubborn artist because of this. I’ll always go back to this: never do free work under the guise of good publicity.

Yes exactly Doing this art is too much work to do it for free Even friends have to pay Sure if they good friends then they can get a tiny discount but not much because the materials cost so much and it takes so much time You have to support the artist

The most dangerous phrase in the language is, “we’ve always done it this way.”

"Come on, let’s mix it up!" The heart surgeon says.
"B-but we’ve always done it this way!" The other replies, "this is how you replace a heart valve."
"That’s the most dangerous phrase in the human language!" The first surgeon replies haughtily as he inputs a fruit loop into the patient’s heart. "This will be his valve. He will be a fruit loop in a world of Cheerios."
